FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE:
Attention, New
Hampshire assignment and Political editors
GOP U.S. Senate candidate
Andy Martin triggers an immediate response when he demands a meeting in a New
Hampshire school lunch battle
Andy says a cafeteria
operator must rehire a dismissed worker with back pay – and the firm
immediately agrees
Andy says he will try
to convince the fired worker to return to work
(MANCHESTER, NH) (May
17, 2018) --- GOP U. S. Senate candidate
Andy Martin triggered
an immediate response Friday when he demanded a meeting with the catering firm that
had fired a New Hampshire school cafeteria worker for providing lunch to a student.
Shortly after receiving Andy’s letter, Cafe Services agreed to rehire the fired
worker, who had been dismissed for providing a school lunch to a student
without adequate funds on hand.
“What a difference a
U.S. Senate candidate can make when a large firm is beating up on one of their employees,
and the local school board does nothing,” Andy says. “The minute Cafe Services
realized they had to face a serious defender of Bonnie Kimball, they folded. (Andy’s
letter is reproduced below.)
“This is a win for
New Hampshire values. Grafton County is not New York and it is not Los Angeles.
It is classic, quintessential New Hampshire. We treat each other as friends and
neighbors, not strangers and enemies. Ms. Kimball did nothing wrong. She took
care of a student. We don’t know what the situation was, probably a harried mom
that overlooked making a payment. (I can relate to that.) Bonnie took care of the
student. That is the way Granite Staters react. We don’t say, ‘Go ahead and starve,
kid,’ or offer a cold substitute. The boy probably had no idea that the school
board had a policy of cold lunches when you don’t have cold cash.
“I am the only U.S. Senate
candidate who represents New Hampshire values. Unlike Shaheen, my campaign is
not fueled with tens of millions of dirty dollars from Washington lobbyists and
special interests. I can speak for every Granite Stater because I reflect Granite
State values. My family received a warm welcome from New Hampshire citizens over
a century ago; we have been ‘paying back’ for over a century.
“Ms. Kimball is
obviously hurt. She was treated badly. [See links below.] She was unjustly
called a thief; no apology has yet been forthcoming. I am trying to contact her
to convince her to go back to work. She represents a bigger issue than just herself.
She did the honorable thing and we need her back on line looking after her
kids. I will do what I can to convince Cafe Services to make a generous
settlement offer and issue an apology, and I will urge Ms. Kimball to accept.
The decision to return is hers alone, but she stands for more than just an $8
lunch. She has become a representative of what makes New Hampshire great and
good,” Andy says. “If anyone has her phone number, please send it along.”

Urgent request for
meeting and reinstatement of Bonnie Kimball
Dear Mr. Matheson:
I am writing about
the abusive treatment of one of your employees as reported in the national
media. As a U. S. Senate candidate, I am concerned about the proper functioning
of the federal school lunch program.
I am writing with two
urgent requests:
1. I would like to schedule
an immediate meeting with you to discuss and potentially resolve Ms. Kimball’s situation.
2. I ask that pendente lite Ms. Kimball be reinstated
with back pay.
I believe we should
attempt to resolve this matter informally and without the need of a superior court
lawsuit. In New Hampshire we treat each other as neighbors, not on an
impersonal basis. We are not New York or Los Angeles.
I have no doubt that
the student who received luncheon items, and paid the next day, was not aware
of the intricacies of federal lunch regulations. These regs may need changing and
legislative oversight. I do not believe it is federal legislative policy that
kids do without.
I find your treatment
of an employee who extended a kindness to a student unconscionable.
You can reach me
quickest by email or fax. I would respectfully request that you respond at your
earliest convenience so as to obviate the need for more direct action.
Sincerely yours,
Andy Martin
