FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

(MANCHESTER, NH) (June 26, 2020) --- New Hampshire Republican U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin says that President Trump has endangered his own reelection by making endorsements and shunning other candidates in the 2020 New Hampshire state (local) primary. Andy says Trump should apologize for his mistakes and revoke the endorsements.

“One of the ironclad rules of politics is that national leaders do not try to control local elections,” Andy says. “Such heavy-handed endorsements seldom succeed, and often boomerang. Two of President Trump’s ‘endorsees’ lost primaries earlier this week.

“Before anyone is confused, let me be clear. I am voting for President Trump in November. I will not vote for anyone else. I strongly support the president’s reelection. In fact, reelecting Trump is a matter of national security. The nation’s fate cannot be entrusted to the Biden-Pelosi-Schumer axis.

“But supporting the president does not mean I have to support his mistakes and self-destructive behavior when I see evidence of poor judgment.

“On June 12th Trump endorsed one of my primary opponents. It was a colossal mistake. (Please see link [1] below.)

“First, people always say they will ‘vote Republican’ and support the winner of a primary. When there is no rigging, that is generally true. But when the winning candidate rigged the primary, the loser’s supporters often stay at home. We have a classic example in 2016, when Senator Kelly Ayotte did a credible job in Washington, but kept attacking local Republicans in New Hampshire. Voters rebelled and Ayotte was defeated by a handful of votes. So, endorsements that appear to be rigged or fixed do hurt the recipient as well as the national leader.

“Second, the endorsee, the winner of Trump’s favor in this case, is Colorado Carpetbagger ‘Porky’ Messner, who came to New Hampshire to buy an election because he couldn’t buy one in Colorado. Messner has minimal local backing but he is spreading around hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy supporters by the bushel basket.

“Third, Trump was poorly served by his White House insiders. Trump has perhaps the weakest political operation in recent history. It looks to me as though money changed hands somewhere on the inside to engineer the endorsement for ‘Porky’ Messner. Trump doesn’t know Messner. He was told to support him, and did. Someone benefitted but obviously not Trump.

“Neither I nor Don Bolduc are going down without a fight. In fact, Trump’s endorsement of Messner may have increased the chances of my winning the nomination in a three-way split.

“Senate candidate Bolduc sent out an email in which he said:

The RNC has cut off our campaign from shared party resources and is now pushing to suspend the state party's rules on neutrality to tilt the playing field even further.

I consider this a form of election rigging. Why even have a primary election if Washington, D.C. is going to decide the candidate? This is New Hampshire. Granite Staters do not like to be told who to support and quite frankly, I do not like to be told to concede before Granite Staters make their choice.

Congressional candidate Matt Mayberry, who was also not endorsed, said in an email:

Long story short, they're trying to rig our elections -- and frankly, that's offensive to me and it should be to you… Our New Hampshire values are at stake. Please do what you can today!

“By cutting off candidates from the national party’s resources, and holding an ‘opening’ tomorrow with closed doors for candidates who were not endorsed, Trump keeps digging himself a deeper hole.

“New Hampshire GOP bylaws enforce strict neutrality (though that bylaw is often violated). But, usually, all candidates are welcomed at primary events. There is no precedent for the Trump team’s event tomorrow where some senate and congressional candidates have not been invited to a presidential event.

“Why is State Chairman Steve Stepanek not standing up to defend his party’s neutrality bylaws? More rigging? Stepanek should enforce the bylaws or step down as chairman.

“I urge Trump to apologize to the people of New Hampshire and revoke the two endorsements he was importuned to make.

“Some may think Trump is going to win reelection in a landslide. I am not one of them. The election is going down to the wire. Trump’s ill-advised endorsements may cost Trump New Hampshire’s electoral votes. It was always going to be a close race. And in a close race, disgruntled supporters of opposing primary candidates retaliate in a way that costs the president a victory. Just ask Kelly Ayotte what it’s like to lose by 1,000 votes. Ayotte’s mistakes may have also cost Trump the state.

“I am going to stop by the Trump headquarters opening on Saturday; after all, I am one of his strongest supporters. And I have known him longer than anyone; I signed Trump’s lease in 1979 to move into my condominium building in New York (where I was on the board). I wish Trump had advisers with practical knowledge. He doesn’t.

“I hope America doesn’t suffer because someone pulled a fast one by trying to rig the September New Hampshire state primary,” Andy says. “It’s going to be a disaster for Trump.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

(MANCHESTER, NH) (June 16, 2020)

Dear Granite State Voter:

Last week I outlined a schedule of future reports on why my two principal primary opponents were not viable U. S. Senate candidates and why their efforts to unseat incumbent Jeanne Shaheen were doomed to failure. On Friday, President Trump endorsed one of my opponents (please see link [1] below), effectively ending General Don Bolduc’s campaign.

I will still go forward with the commentaries this week as promised for “Bolduc Week,” because Bolduc has not withdrawn and he will linger on as a candidate. But make no mistake; Bolduc is toast.

The candidate Trump endorsed is also an ineffective opponent for Shaheen. He is a wealthy Colorado businessman, Bryant “Porky” Messner, whose connection with New Hampshire is so tenuous it is laughable. But Messner has money, no doubt gleaned from a career as a greedy and unscrupulous lawyer, and he is willing to spend piles of cash to win the dubious nomination.

Unseating an incumbent senator of either party is a herculean task. Over the past thirty (30) years Republicans have deluded themselves into believing Shaheen was easy prey. They beat her once. In thirty years. Defeating an incumbent when you lack experience and have no idea how to proceed except by spreading cash in every direction, as Messner is doing, is a doomed approach.

President Trump’s endorsement will effectively cut off Bolduc’s campaign contributions. But the president’s endorsement may also prove costly to Trump himself in the long run.

New Hampshire is an increasingly difficult state for a Republican to win. The Democrats are hyper-organized, with millions of dollars of resources and a well-oiled machine. The Republicans are just the opposite. State Republican leaders have few resources and are not well organized. The party is a shadow of its former strength. There are more GOP “insider” weaknesses that I will disclose in week 3 of my series of comments on the campaign.

There is a track for the “establishment” candidate in every primary. Bolduc and Messner were competing for that lane. There is also a track for the outsider, the challenger, the maverick party member who has an independent vision of how to defeat the Democrats. That’s my track.

Men, perhaps more than women, fall victim to a middle-age delusion that money conquers all. You can buy an expensive car, a boat and even a summer residence in New Hampshire, which is what Messner did. Unlike in his home state of Colorado, Messner also thinks he can buy an election in New Hampshire. But New Hampshire voters are smarter than that.

Bolduc was a soldier who came home to New Hampshire to heal. Bolduc always attaches “General” to every mention, “The General this,” or “The General That…” My own experience has been that military men are not very good politicians, particularly West Pointers. There are exceptions: Secretary of State Pompeo has been successful and appears to harbor presidential ambitions. But for the most part generals do not do well in contested elections.

Trump is very popular with GOP primary voters. He has a very decent-to-outstanding list of accomplishments; but mostly because of his Twitter comments he is still in a close race with a mummified opponent. Trump has a posse that surrounds him; this coterie of supporters influences his actions, not always impartially. It was this inside posse that engineered the Messner endorsement; they will probably come to regret it. Trump in 2020 will probably lose New Hampshire again in a close race, partially due to the negative feedback from the Messner endorsement.

There is a general rule in politics: national officials do not try to pick candidates in state races. You lose as many votes as you gain. Bolduc has supporters, and they will not be happy with the way the Messner endorsement was handled. In recent election cycles, statewide candidates have been separated by a relative handful of votes. In a close race, a few disgruntled Bolduc supporters may hold the balance.

So, while Bolduc is a “dead man walking” as a candidate, his presence may yet have an ongoing, negative influence on the senate race in November.

Bottom line: because he is still in the primary, I will write about Bolduc as I originally planned. But I would say that the president, without even being aware of what he did, has ended Bolduc’s candidacy.

I hope you will find the commentaries on my opponents thought-provoking. I offer experience and wisdom as an alternative, not a fat wallet. As President Trump would say, given the GOP’s record of repeatedly losing to Shaheen, “what do you have to lose” by nominating me as an unconventional candidate to attack her?

But in the case of Bolduc this week, thanks or no thanks to President Trump, I will be writing about a carcass, not a candidate.

Sincerely,

Andy

New Hampshire Democrats are accused of racism by Andy Martin for rejecting Black candidate Ryan Terrell for the State Board of Education

U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin accuses New Hampshire Democrats of racism after three members of the party’s leadership voted against an African-American appointee to the State Board of Education. “I worked in Washington during the civil rights era and I know segregationist rhetoric when I see it,” Andy says. “The behavior of Jeanne Shaheen’s Democratic party is racist and an embarrassment to the entire state. I call on Shaheen to condemn the behavior of her supporters (Volinsky, Pignatelli) and to demand that Ryan Terrell be reconsidered and confirmed to the board. “I aim to make New Hampshire proud,” Andy says. “Shaheen’s supporters have disgraced the state.”

Senator Jeanne Shaheen
United States Senate
Washington, DC 20510

Dear Senator Shaheen:

You have been a career politician in New Hampshire for three decades. During that period, you built the New Hampshire Democratic Party from the ground up.

What you have produced is a disgrace to every Granite Stater. Your party, your “base,” your supporters, are now acting as racists and segregationists. And ignoramuses.

I went to work in the 89th Congress. Both the U. S. Senate and House were controlled by segregationists. I recognize segregationist rhetoric when I see it. President Johnson passed civil rights legislation only because Republicans supported him. More Republicans than Democrats voted for the civil rights laws.

There was very raw, racial hatred in Washington and on Capitol Hill in the 1960’s. I may be the last person active in New Hampshire politics who saw firsthand the civil rights battles in the 89th Congress.

But until last week, when your supporters on the Executive Council rejected the nomination of Ryan Terrell for the State Board of Education, I had never seen such raw racism in New Hampshire. New Hampshire Democrats are apparently not afraid to use segregationist rhetoric to smear anyone they oppose.

Governor Sununu is to be commended and congratulated for seeking to bring New Hampshire state government into the 21st Century by appointing Ryan Terrell to the state board. Terrell is a genuine New Hampshire success story.

At a time when the nation is now consumed with a painful review of our racial policies, New Hampshire Democrats have taken us back to segregationist days by claiming an African-American is “not qualified” and would “demean” the state board. Your people are wicked.

The ever-slimy Councilor Volinsky said that Terrell would “demean” the Board, and that Terrell’s appointment was “tokenism.” Well, the first appointee of any group to any board, by virtue of the fact he/she is alone, is “token.”

Volinsky later apologized for the tokenism remark but not the claim Terrell would demean the Board.

Councilor Pignatelli said Terrell should get “experience” and that she had three candidates of her own for the Board. None has surfaced. Pignatelli is both an unreconstructed racist and a complete moron.

Both Volinsky and Pignatelli should resign immediately.

Telling African-Americans they were “not qualified” and “needed more experience” were the racist tropes of the Democratic Party in the 1950’s and 60’s. Today Southerners would be embarrassed to use such openly racist remarks but New Hampshire Democrats have no problem using the old segregationist rhetoric to smear Terrell. We have a prime example of “Gone With the Wind” attitudes in your Democratic Party.

I respectfully request that you take three emergency steps:

1. I ask that you apologize to the people of New Hampshire, all of them, for the racist, segregationist behavior of your party and your supporters.

2. I ask that you call on the councilors to ask for a new vote on the Terrell nomination.

3. I ask that you tell your de facto supporters to vote for Terrell and to retract their racist, segregationist rhetoric.

By the way, you were governor for several terms. How come you never appointed an African-American to the Board of Education?  How come you never urged your successors to do so? I guess that was too much for you. Your behavior is disgraceful and an embarrassment to the People of New Hampshire.

The People of New Hampshire are not racists. But the New Hampshire Democratic Party, judging from Chairman Ray Buckley’s sophomoric remarks to the media, is composed of arrogant people who mouth racist language and demean African-Americans as unqualified, all while seeking to harvest their votes. In Chicago, they call that approach “Plantation Politics.” It appears we now have a plantation in your own Democratic Party. The Democratic Party attack on Terrell is a devastating indictment of your party.

Volinsky and Pignatelli are your people. If you don’t condemn them, you own them.

Respectfully submitted,

Andy Martin

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

(MANCHESTER, NH) (June 8, 2020) --- New Hampshire Republican U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin says his primary opponents are treacherous, anti-Trump candidates and he promises to expose them in a series of news releases over the next three weeks. “As a young law student, I started in Illinois politics fighting the Crime Syndicate-influenced Democratic Party; I helped send many of them to federal prison. When it comes to fighting for public integrity, I have a long-established track record of being a tough corruption fighter (see www.andymartin.com for details).

“A few days ago, one of the GranuiteGrok.com editors posted a jibe at my claim of ‘experience’ to be a formidable senate candidate. I actually read the Grok, and often get ideas from their work, but their persistent support for losing candidates speaks for itself.

“Here are some undisputed facts from recent New Hampshire politics:

“In 2011, I exposed that Jennifer Horn, who had run for congress as a young conservative, was transitioning into a liberal Democrat. Horn supported Barack Obama and attacked my well-received book exposing Obama’s lies. I warned New Hampshire Republicans – this is 2011, mind you - that Horn was not to be trusted any longer as a conservative.

“In 2013 I opposed Horn’s election as state chairman because she had engaged in tax fraud during her own congressional primaries, by not paying withholding taxes. The IRS had a lien on her house. Horn refused to take a paying job to pay off her tax liens. Instead, Horn preferred to be an unpaid (?) Chairman of the state GOP. Very suspicious. I said Horn would be a disaster as chairman and would do incalculable damage to the party.

“In 2014 I opposed Horn’s recruitment of a Massachusetts resident to run for U. S. Senate. By reaching to Massachusetts, Horn sent a signal of weakness about New Hampshire Republicans. I exposed that Scott Brown had shamelessly inflated his military experiences. The few votes I cost Brown cost him the election. If he had not lied, Brown would be a senator today.

“In 2015 Jennifer Horn and Senator Kelly Ayotte attacked the only GOP congressman, Frank Guinta, because of Guinta’s possible violation of election law. Horn and Ayotte managed to destroy Guinta, but in the process Ayotte also destroyed her own reelection campaign as GOP voters rejected her. Horn and Ayotte fumbled away half the congressional delegation.

“In 2016 Horn began her latest anti-GOP travesty, becoming a leader of the ‘Never Trumpers.’ Today in 2020, as a ‘founder’ of the Lincoln Project Horn launches relentless attacks on the president. Is Trump perfect? Not by a New Hampshire country mile. But using Joe Biden’s own metric, ‘Compare me to the alternative, not the Almighty,’ there is no comparison between the enfeebled Biden and Trump. Yet Horn and her group of disgruntled Republicrats are determined to turn America over to extreme-left Democrats.

“My prediction in 2011 that Horn was becoming a Democrat was prophetic. Only New Hampshire Republican leaders were too dumb to see what was front of them, and made her state chairman. They have paid a horrible political price.

“In 2016, I exposed that the GraniteGrok-supported Jim Lawrence was a fraud. I reported that Lawrence was not a ‘small businessman’ because the state had shut down his business. Lawrence claimed to be a government expert but the government had banned him from bidding on contracts. And he had failed to pay taxes on his home. The Union Leader and WMUR used my research to defeat Lawrence and reelect an extreme Democrat to congress.

“In 2018, the party favorite was Andy Sanborn. Prior efforts by others to expose Sanborn had failed. After I entered the primary, I negotiated an agreement with the Attorney General, without even filing an RTK lawsuit, exposing secret state transcripts disclosing Sanborn’s sexual peccadilloes. Sanborn spent $1 million to be defeated. I did not spend a penny other than my filing fee to defeat him.

“So, to my friends at GraniteGrok, let me say, again, you have backed losing candidates who defrauded Republican voters. Why are you so opposed to me? Do you still ridicule my claim I am the most experienced candidate to run against Shaheen?

“If nominated, I will do to Shaheen what I have repeatedly done to my primary opponents. Expose her corruption and target her for defeat.

“All I have asked the Republican Party to do is stay neutral in primaries, as required by the party’s bylaws. In 2018, party leaders created endless roadblocks to hamstring my campaign and to deprive me of an honest election. They paid the price.

“I call my current opponents ‘Dumb’ and ‘Dumber,’ although on any given day it is difficult to decide who is the ‘Dumbest.’ They are worthless candidates propelled by vanity and little else.

“This month I launch a series of ‘weeks’ to expose the Republican Party’s leadership corruption and incompetence (see below). There is serious circumstantial evidence that my primary opponents are Democratic Party sympathizers and saboteurs. I will set forth my analysis and facts, and let GOP voters decide for themselves. But based on my track record of nailing fraudulent candidates, could anyone claim I lack the ‘experience’ to do so? Over to you, GraniteGrok.”

Projected list of campaign disclosures (these dates are aspirational and may slip by a day or two):

Week of June 15:

“Bolduc Week,” a series of five exposures on Bolduc

Week of June 25:

“Messner Week,” a series of four disclosures about “Porky” Messner

Week of July 2 (this may slip slightly because of the holiday):

“NHGOP week,” exposing the New Hampshire GOP leadership’s refusal to hold honest and impartial primaries. Does anyone really believe the GOP remains a serious statewide opponent for the New Hampshire Democrat ‘Machine’ today?”

What: Andy Martin claims victory in battle to reopen New Hampshire’s beaches

Andy Martin has been battling to reopen New Hampshire since the start of May. He has been pushing President Trump to speed up reopening nationally since late March.

Andy says there is absolutely no scientific evidence to justify closing beaches or properly-managed swimming pools; fresh salt air and water make it highly unlikely the virus can spread at beaches

Andy predicts reopening of New Hampshire will now accelerate: “The walls are crumbling,” he says “People are fed up”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

(MANCHESTER, NH) (June 6, 2020) --- New Hampshire Republican U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin cites President John Kennedy for the claim that “Victory has a thousand fathers, but defeat is an orphan.” “I am a proud father of efforts to expedite the reopening of New Hampshire,” Andy says. “Many worked to reopen New Hampshire. As a nationally respected litigator I was one of the earliest, most persistent and most effective in convincing the governor to avoid the embarrassment of a lawsuit to ‘Free New Hampshire’s Beaches.’”

“Just a few days ago a very limited reopening was announced. My lawsuit was in the final stages of preparation. Friday the governor said new ‘health’ information mandated a further reopening. What new information? The facts did not change over a week. Public opinion is changing; the threat of an embarrassing lawsuit is a change factor.

“The governor may have also realized that state Democrats want to delay reopening to defeat Republicans in November.

“I first attacked the ‘emergency’ on May 1st (please see link [1] below). On May 8th I sent the governor a letter predicting a lawsuit if the delays persisted (please see link [2] below). Finally, on May 31st I ridiculed my primary opponents for being ‘cowardly candidates’ and failing to take a stand for reopening the state (please see link [3] below). They are still silent, and still cowards. I have been open and public and on the record for months.

“The governor also remembers I settled a major legal claim with the Attorney General in 2018 (the ‘Sanborn transcripts’). He probably did not want me to file a lawsuit and then have the AG settle it.

“I never acted as someone hostile to the governor. I support him for reelection. My view is the governor was misinformed; the same way President Trump was misinformed by so-called ‘experts’ in Washington. Because I follow events on a global basis I saw that other regions were having better results than we were in New Hampshire. President Trump gave the state freedom to reopen but the governor was not using it. Last week, in just a few days, the governor shifted from ‘no beach blankets’ to ‘have at it.’

“Georgia reopened six weeks ago; other states were also early reopeners. New Hampshire was a laggard. We are still not at 100%. The Hampton Beach parking restrictions are problematic. But there is not enough of a dispute left to justify a lawsuit. I am hopeful the governor will wake up and start looking beyond Concord for his inspiration. We need to reopen New Hampshire 100% and fast.”

June 3, 2020

Dear American:

I stand with President Trump. Period.

I might not have written this letter. But the disgraceful attacks of the anti-Trump Episcopal Bishop of Washington, Mariann Budde, demonizing President Trump for visiting St. John’s Church,  compels me to state where I stand and why.

My name is Andy Martin. I am a candidate for U. S. Senator from New Hampshire. But in a broader sense, my life has been a lifetime of service to the United States. I took the oath of enlistment at age 18 to support and defend the Constitution. Mine is a very national experience, not just a Granite State story.

In this letter I would like to explain three things: (1) why I am outraged at the left-wing Episcopal Bishop, Mariann Budde, who attacked President Trump. I will go into some detail concerning my family’s history with St. John’s church that was torched by radicals. (2) I want to explain why I am best equipped to assist President Trump in January, 2021. Finally, (3) I will explain why we are once more involved in a civil war against domestic terrorism. The forces of peace and constitutional commitment cannot afford to lose to the anarchists and destroyers of civilization that have used the George Floyd murder to unleash an attack on our social order.

1. The Episcopal Bishop of Washington is a disgrace

I am a member of the Episcopal Church. Over the past fifty years the national church has become increasingly radicalized. The church of Bethesda By the Sea (bbts.org) went so far as to endorse the disgraceful behavior of Bishop Budde. Conservatives are not welcome in the Episcopal Church. The radical left controls church leadership and is driving the institution into oblivion.

My mother, Helen Vasiliou, graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1940. She began as a teacher at Farmington High School in New Hampshire. She could not have envisioned that she would soon join the war effort in Washington, DC and later be sent overseas. She was the daughter of Greek immigrants.

Mom lived at a single women’s residence off Connecticut Avenue. She told me she often walked down Connecticut Avenue and over to St. John’s Church a few blocks away.

During the Viet-Nam era, I started staying at the Capital Hilton, several blocks from St. John’s. Later, my office on Connecticut Avenue was a short walk from St. John’s. I attended services there when I was in Washington.

I was deeply distressed to see the church burning. I was delighted to see President Trump walk over to St. John’s Monday and pay his respects at the torched structure. But I was amazed when the disorder-sympathizing Bishop Budde attacked the president. Budde’s behavior was disgraceful. Bishop Budde is indicative of the extreme left-wing, anti-American bias that increasingly affects Episcopal leadership. Church membership has fallen in half over the past decades and continues to decline. The bishop should have praised the president, not condemned him.

Now you can see why I am enraged and why I am speaking out. My family has been associated with St. Johns for over 75 years.

2. Ordinary New Hampshire citizens have no voice in Washington

New Hampshire today is “represented” by four radical-supporting left-wing Democrats. Ordinary people have no voice. The left-wing Democrats put out endless promises of “free” government handouts; they support trillion-dollar giveaways to benefit their “boss,” the reprehensible Senator Charles Schumer of New York (who recently attacked me). Ordinary taxpaying Granite State citizens have no voice in Washington - but they are asked to subsidize handouts to deficit-spending states such as New York, Illinois and California.

The New Hampshire Republican Party is a hollowed-out remnant of its glory days. New Hampshire, once a leader in defending liberty, has become a pale relic of its former commitment to “Live Free or Die.” Not even our beaches are free today.

I have known President Trump since I approved his application to move into the Olympic Tower Condominium over 40 years ago (he was renting a condo in the building and I was on the board). I have watched Trump for decades, and understand his strengths and weaknesses. He is far from a perfect president. But he is our president.

I followed the advice of Joe Biden and compared Joe not to the almighty, but to the alternative. Joe Biden is not mentally and physically capable of serving as president. There is no alternative to Trump. To paraphrase a patriot Carl Schurz, “My president right or wrong; if right to be kept right, if wrong to be set right.”

Donald Trump needs help. None of my GOP primary opponents can remotely aid the president in January. The Democrats are out to destroy him. Trump needs a supporter on Capitol Hill who understands him, who has known him from his early days as a New York real estate promoter, and who can work with the president, warts and all. I am that candidate.

3. We are engaged in a new “great civil war”

Lincoln spoke at Gettysburg of a “great civil war.” Today we are engaged in yet another civil war over whether our society can survive. Our urban centers have been taken over by radical socialists and even Maoists. Local governing bodies from New York to Chicago to Los Angeles are intimidated by radical members. Antifa is ascendant. The Democratic Party nationally is being held hostage to radical elements. The “Democrats” of the 1960’s and 70’s and even early 1980’s no longer exist.

I have devoted my life to civil rights. I was at Resurrection City (Washington, DC) in 1968, established by Martin Luther King before his assassination. I was recruited to play football at the University of Illinois to foster civil rights. I have defended the Constitution in countless lawsuits. And I have stood up to corrupt local, state and federal officials who were contemptuous of civil rights. My civil rights roots run deep.

That is why I am so angry at the murder of George Floyd. It was a senseless killing by a depraved police officer. But Floyd’s murder has accomplished something unusual: almost every American condemns the killing. Floyd’s outrageous killing by a man sworn to uphold the Constitution has united the American People in a way seldom seen, notably not since 9/11.

Our Constitution governs how we should proceed. We have robust federal and state justice systems. They are not perfect but on an everyday basis they usually work reasonably well. Are mistakes committed? Every day. In a nation of 330 million people, mistakes will be made. The vast majority of police efforts are peaceful. The justice system is an honorable institution. The combination of national outrage and decent systems of justice will lead to justice for Floyd. So why is America burning?

Chicago is under siege. The transit system is being shut down. The central business district, “The Loop,” was closed off by raising bridges on the Chicago River, in an almost medieval symbol of a moat. Midtown New York? Under attack. Downtown New York? Under attack. Hundreds of cities under attack. By whom and for what? Luckily New Hampshire has escaped this mayhem.

Donald Trump endlessly blathers that he is a “historic” president. But you do cannot order up history and declare yourself “historical.” History only comes when you are called, not vice versa.

Ironically, Trump is perhaps the only official today that has the strength and will to stand up to the radicals. History has called him when he least expected it, out of the blue, because of a random act of murder by a madman in a police uniform. We have a law enforcement apparatus to bring arsonists, anarchists and rioters to justice; Trump will allow that system to function. The man who dreamed of being historic has unexpectedly been called on by history to be historic. It’s a twist of fate.

We cannot afford to lose this new civil war. We like to talk about the “coasts,” and red and blue states. The divisions are increasingly evident. Our great cities have come under radical, extremist domination. America as a nation must stand up to the anarchic elements who seek to undermine our nation.

I grew up and went to Capitol Hill as a staffer in a “two party’ system where both parties were committed to law and order. Both parties were committed to social justice. (More Republicans voted for the 1964 Civil Rights Act than Democrats, a fact often forgotten). In Lincoln’s words, we need to bind up our wounds and continue our national consensus of opportunity and equality for all. Trump has been trying to do that. But he is cleareyed that there is no opportunity in arson. There is no equality in anarchy.

That is why I stand with President Trump. You should too.

Please support me as your United States Senator from New Hampshire.

Sincerely,

Andy
