New Hampshire U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin says that the University of New Hampshire Survey Center’s polling operation is subservient to the Democratic Party and conducts biased polls to benefit Democratic candidates. “UNH is rotten to the core,” Andy says

Republican U. S. Senate candidate Andy Martin will hold a Manchester news conference Friday, August 21st to document how the University of New Hampshire is manipulating its polling operation to undermine the Republican Party’s 2020 primary, by nominating a sure loser as a U. S. Senate candidate. UNH pollsters operate with the goal of ensuring the reelection of socialist princess Jeanne Shaheen. “Behind the scenes, New Hampshire politics is just as corrupt as Chicago’s,” says Andy. “The image of the state, of village greens and white church steeples, is a facade behind which extremist Democrats have constructed a Chicago-style political machine that manipulates ‘polling’ by the state university. One GOP candidate promoted by UNH has both a drunk driving record and faces felony indictment during the campaign, for financial fraud in Colorado. The other candidate is making anti-gay slurs at a time when the GOP is going in the opposite direction. UNH pretends Shaheen’s toughest November opponent doesn’t exist and has erased his name from its polling operation. This is crooked, Chicago-style politics behind a bucolic backdrop.”

 News conference details:

NOTICE OF WILLFUL AND WANTON VIOLATION OF NEW HAMPSHIRE’S RIGHT TO KNOW (“RTL”) LAW BY UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAMPSHIRE PERSONNEL AND SECOND EMERGENCY REQUEST FOR INVESTIGATION AND DISCLOSURE OF DOCUMENTS AND ALL RECORDS BY UNH

Dear President Dean:

On August 17th I sent an emergency Right to Know (“RTL”) request for an investigation because of a persistent pattern of violations of the RTL law and polling practices by your Andrew Smith. I believe I also sent you a copy of my RTL request that was sent directly to Smith. If not, it is attached to this email.

The RTL law requires good faith compliance by state employees. Your Mr. Smith is trying to frustrate compliance, so I am now making a direct demand personally to you as President to (1) disclose all polling data, records, memoranda, etc. for the U. S. Senate 2020 election in New Hampshire, as previously requested, and to (2) order Mr. Smith to comply with my prior demand for RTL documentation.

I don’t know whether Mr. Smith is a complete asshole, or whether he is trying to provoke a lawsuit and involve UNH in a RTL compliance scandal. But instead of the materials I requested, Mr. Smith decided to play word games and denied they existed:

Mr. Martin:

I received your email request.  The UNH Survey Center has not conducted any polling regarding the 2020 New Hampshire Republican Primary.  We have not had any contracts with or payments received from  WMUR or the Union Leader regarding the NH Republican Primary.  We have no specific plans for conducting any polling for the New Hampshire Republican Primary.

Andrew E. Smith, Ph.D.

I was amazed by his response because although I was generally aware of UNH’s polls, I did not have the specific citations. I had to do my own research on Smith’s polling which mentioned my Republican Party primary opponents. I found that Smith had conducted three (3) polls mentioning my primary opponents, and one that mentioned Shaheen generally:

UNH Abstract

Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Governor Chris Sununu hold large leads over their major challengers in their bids for reelection. Shaheen's leads over Republicans Don Bolduc and Corky Messner have remained steady since February. Sununu also has maintained wide leads over Democratic challengers Dan Feltes and Andru Volinsky.

3/2/20     https://scholars.unh.edu/survey_center_polls/578/

UNH Abstract

Senator Jeanne Shaheen holds clear leads over prospective Republican challengers Former New Hampshire House of Representatives Speaker Bill O'Brien, Retired General Don Bolduc, and Attorney Corky Messner. As their reelection contests approach, Representatives Chris Pappas and Annie Kuster are viewed favorably by pluralities of their constituents, but many are neutral or are unaware of them.

UNH Abstract

As the 2020 Congressional elections approach, New Hampshire senator Jeanne Shaheen continues to enjoy high favorability, but residents are divided whether she should be reelected. Three of her declared Republican challengers have very low name recognition in the state. Representative Chris Pappas is somewhat popular in New Hampshire's First District, but residents are divided on whether he should be reelected. Second District residents are less positive about Representative Annie Kuster and a plurality would prefer that someone else be elected to Congress in 2020.

3/6/2019     https://scholars.unh.edu/survey_center_polls/555/

UNH Abstract

New Hampshire's senior senator Jeanne Shaheen remains the most popular member of the state's Congressional delegation ahead of her 2020 reelection campaign. Shaheen's colleague Maggie Hassan is slightly less popular, while representatives Annie Kuster and newly-elected Chris Pappas are only somewhat popular in their respective districts.

--------

So UNH had clearly conducted polls on my 2020 primary opponents. No reasonable person would believe that after polling on my primary opponents specifically mentioned by name, Smith’s claim there were no polls was a bona fide response.

In his poll several weeks ago, Smith tried to use the term “major” challengers when Smith had previously referred to them as little-known and I am the only one of the three whose name has actually been on a ballot.

Smith is playing dangerous games with our democracy; he is corrupting your institution’s compliance with the RTL and seeking to rig the election in favor of a “patsy” Republican primary winner for Shaheen, because the socialist-liberal-Antifa cabals at UNH clearly prefer her as an elected official.

I am now making a formal demand to you personally to comply with my earlier demand as well as a demand for the same 2020 election materials discussed in this letter. I also ask that you order Smith to comply in good faith with the demand in this letter and the demand in my earlier letter, and that you further order Smith to stop making a joke of the RTL with his smart-alecky and evasive responses.

Smith’s behavior as documented above is beyond contempt but exposes the radical, anti-American atmosphere at UNH. The harassment and abuse of conservative Republican candidates by UNH employees, when our tax dollars also pay your salaries, is bound to injure the university as an institution. If, by implication and silence, you endorse Smith’s harassment and abuse, I surely plan a “corporate campaign” to expose UNH’s contemptible behavior and publish them widely so that students and parents know what a thoroughly despicable and compromised institution UNH has become.

Because UNH polling is so totally tilted in Shaheen’s favor, I believe an argument can be made that your rigged polls constitute an illegal contribution to Shaheen in violation of the Federal Election Contributions Act (“FECA”).

Once again, I renew my demand for emergency RTL action and compliance. The RTL law mandates that RTL request be expedited, NH Stat §91-A:7.

Our great public universities should be defenders of democracy, not seek to rig elections and make a mockery of our political institutions. Sadly, UNH is rapidly becoming a disgrace because of its leftist/socialist/Antifa orientation, not to mention the cancerous impact of your Confucius Institute.

Because my RTL request has now been made directly to you, in response to Mr. Smith’s evasiveness, you are personally responsible for seeing that compliance is made with my demands.

Please respond promptly as this is an urgent request. I don’t want to take legal action if it can be avoided, but UNH’s behavior disrupts and delays my campaign and the university must be held accountable for its misconduct.

Sincerely yours,

Andy
